Project

Cosiendo Redes

Cosiendo Redes is an initiative based in the vibrant San Pablo neighbourhood of Zaragoza, which aims to provide a creative and educational space for migrant women.
About the project
This free sewing workshop, hosted at CEIP Santo Domingo primary school, encourages creativity and the use of recycled materials to make a variety of textile products. The initiative aims not only to teach sewing skills but also to promote sustainable practices and the circular economy by extending the life of products.

Cosiendo Redes is not only a learning space but also a meeting place open to young people and associations, with a special focus on women in the neighbourhood who are interested in learning to sew and to reuse materials creatively. It also focuses on passing on sewing knowledge, a skill that is often left to older people, thereby encouraging intergenerational exchange and strengthening the community.
This inclusive project directly benefits migrant women in the neighbourhood, as well as the mothers of children who attend Santo Domingo school. Through practical activities, Cosiendo Redes seeks to empower these women, giving them the opportunity to take an active part in community life and supporting their social and professional integration. In line with European values, the project also aims to educate young people in the neighbourhood about responsible consumption, recycling and the circular economy.

RESULTS

Raising the visibility of the situation of migrant women in society, and thus helping women in the neighbourhood to access the sewing workshop, understood as a space for active participation and for women in the neighbourhood to meet.
Access to the labour market for the young participants, thanks to the new skills gained in sewing and in the reuse and recycling of fabrics, clothing and other textile materials.
Empowerment of the participating women through the development of manual and technical skills. They were able to strengthen and expand their involvement and participation in similar activities, thereby ensuring the sustainability of the project (visits to exhibitions and local NGOs, community events, etc.)
Stronger social cohesion in the neighbourhood through the creation of bonds and support networks among the women taking part in the sewing workshop, promoting solidarity and teamwork.
