El Gancho sobre Ruedas

The El Gancho Sobre Ruedas educational workshop, located in the San Pablo neighbourhood of Zaragoza, stands out as a valuable community resource. This free space gives local residents and pupils at the school the opportunity to learn how to ride, repair and maintain bicycles, promoting sustainable mobility and self-sufficiency.
About the project
Based at CEIP Santo Domingo primary school, El Gancho Sobre Ruedas is not only about repairing bicycles: it also seeks to empower participants by teaching them to tackle and solve mechanical problems themselves. This approach contributes not only to individual wellbeing but also to building a more self-sufficient community. The workshop has a bicycle lending bank, available to organisations and individuals who want to run educational, recreational and non-profit activities. This service is made possible by the commitment of volunteers from Viaje a la Sostenibilidad, who work to maintain and expand this valuable resource. The services offered by El Gancho Sobre Ruedas include repairs for social or non-profit organisations, personalised help with bicycle repairs, individual or group training in bicycle mechanics, and the organisation of outdoor cycling activities.
These initiatives aim not only to improve participants’ mechanical skills but also to promote an active, environmentally friendly lifestyle. The workshop is sustained by the active participation of the community. Those who use our resources, whether bicycles or repair services, not only benefit individually but also become part of a community meeting space where knowledge and experiences are shared.
