Project

YourbanLab

The YourbanLab project aims to create a strategic partnership between youth centres in three Mediterranean countries — Italy, Greece and Spain — improving their ability to respond to the needs of young people, especially those with fewer resources and in marginalised local contexts.
About the project
The project has two specific objectives:

Promote active citizenship and participation among young people and their commitment to community social development in the urban areas where they live

Encourage social change and the involvement of local communities, spread European values and strengthen the European dimension at local level through urban renewal and regeneration practices.
During the project, a group of 15 participants ran the street art and urban regeneration labs, creating the “GANCHO” mural, which can be seen in Plaza Mariano Cavia (Las Armas).

RESULTS

Renewal of the marginalised areas where young people live, encouraging them to take part in the social and democratic life of their society. A community mural was created in each participating country: in Zaragoza (Spain), Palermo (Italy) and Kalamata (Greece).
Young people were agents of positive change and an active part of the community’s social development process.
Use of non-formal education methodologies, supporting young people’s social and cultural growth.
A stronger sense of belonging and community identity among young people, shown by greater participation in local social and democratic activities and a stronger sense of responsibility for and commitment to the wellbeing of their communities.
